As a new and growing blogger, you may be hesitant to dive into the world of influencer marketing. Some bloggers don’t want to showcase brands on their blog, and that is totally fine – but if you do, here are a few tips on How to Land Sponsored-Content Work as a Growing Blogger.
This post is the second in a series about Partnering with Brands, by regular contributor Jenna Urben who blogs at The Urben Life (clever name!). Jenna’s background is in marketing and advertising and she’s worked with a whole host of big-name brands – so she knows what it’s all about!

Thanks, Jenna, for this extremely useful series!
Before you start
First, you will need to determine what type of sponsorships you’re interested in: blog or social post, brand ambassadorship, product review etc. From there you will need to figure out your rates and if you’re open to accepting in-kind compensation.
A note about in-kind compensation: I personally believe for a growing blogger, it is acceptable to agree to this – sometimes. There are several reasons why a blogger may choose to accept in-kind compensation; I think most of the time, it comes back to the fact that if you work with this brand, then having them on your media kit and being able to share that you’ve worked with them will give you credibility in the future.
Okay, now onto why you clicked on this link! Here are my fail-proof tips how to gain exposure and land sponsored-content work.
Put Yourself and Your Brand Out There
Seems simple, right? It may prove to be a little harder than expected. This means go to large expos and attend local meetups. I didn’t start doing this until I was almost already two years in. It’s not always easy finding events and if you can find them, sometimes the date or time doesn’t work for you. I encourage you to really try everything you can to attend these, they’re so enriching and will help you grow immensely. Also, invest in business cards and hand them out like candy. Fun fact: I attended 1 expo and now I’m connected with 4 brands I met there!
Tag Brands You Use and Love on Social
Well duh, right?! I actually didn’t do this for maybe almost a year though. Maybe it’s because I was afraid of being “too small” but whatever my reasons were, don’t be like the old me. Tag all the brands!! Love those frozen veggie tots? tag. Baking with that well-known flour brand? tag. Drinking a yummy tea? tag. Most accounts will give you a “like” or leave a comment, and sometimes even share your photo on their page.
Be Nice, Respond Promptly, and Follow Up
You can do everything Google and Pinterest tells you about securing sponsored posts and brand partnerships, but if you’re not decent to work with, your less-than-desirable reputation will precede you. Remember that the marketing/press contact at your dream brand is a person too…so be nice!
Over to you!
So now are you ready to put all this to work? These are very actionable steps; they should be easy to add into your strategy, and help you grow as an influencer and secure sponsored work.
